Jewish Community Relations

Council

Jewish communities across North America are well known as champions of social activism, and the Jewish Federation of Pinellas/Pasco Counties continues this tradition through the initiatives of the Community Relations Council (CRC).

The JCRC, chaired by Brian Fox, combines the strengths of our committee members to help make the world a better and safer place for all.

Meeting at least quarterly, guest speakers keep JCRC members up to date with what is happening in the Jewish world locally and abroad. During the Gaza War, Pinellas/Pasco JCRC received national news coverage in support of Israel. In January, there was a special session to hear Brigadier General Nehamia Dagan brief us on Gaza, and in March, the JCRC met with St. Petersburg Times editors to discuss their coverage of the war. Most recently, the JCRC, as a founding member of the Pinellas County Interfaith Environmental Coalition, held an Earth Day Celebration attended by over 250 community members.

MISSION

The goals of the JCRC are formed by Jewish values and pursued in a non-partisan manner.

The JCRC mission is:

  • To plan, coordinate and implement an effective program of positive community and public relations both within the Jewish community and between the Jewish and the general community of Pinellas County

  • To promote mutual understanding and respect among all of the people in the Tampa Bay area so that all may enjoy their rights and opportunities

  • To develop effective public information and educational programs relating to issues affecting the Jewish community;

  • To cooperate with other agencies on a local, regional and national level whose activities are consistent with the overall purposes of the JCRC; and

  • To strengthen and promote a better understanding of the special relationship between the United States and Israel.

In pursuit of its mission, the JCRC:
  • Advocates on issues of Jewish communal concern
  • Builds, maintains and joins coalitions to promote effective action
    and opportunities for community involvement
  • Convenes the community in times of crisis, celebration and
    commemoration
ISRAEL

The organized Jewish community feels a profound identification with Israel, and a deep commitment to its survival and security. American Jews, and Americans generally, understand that the long-term national interests of the United States and Israel coincide—a premise underscored by Israel's important role as America's only politically stable and militarily effective ally in the Middle East and reinforced by the unique cultural and political affinity between the two countries.

It is the JCRC's mandate and responsibility to educate all sectors of the community about the complex issues regarding and affecting the State of Israel. For additional information:
